There are about 10 different kinds of wrong with the fact that I guess which Harry Potter movie I'm watching and when it's situated in the saga's timeline judging on Hermione's boobs.

Phone reception
I'd forgotten what it felt like to hang up the phone not knowing when the next time we'll be able to talk will be. *sigh* I worked really really hard at not crying and almost succeeded.
The phone reception really really sucked in his room so I guess it's just a glimpse of how shitty we can expect satellite phones to be. Ugh. We couldn't find a straight answer on when/how often he'd be able to call home so I literally have not a hot clue of when I'll hear from him again.
Also, random thought : Funny how we say "phone reception" instead of "phone connection" with the digital era. :)

Wedding update : Hi, I'm a giant geek.
Seems like all I've been writing lately are wedding updates. I promise to try and spread them all over the next couple weeks so that I don't bore the living crap out of anyone. I've also been working on some scheduled posts for while I'm in Ontario getting ready for the big day so no one misses me too much. :)
Yes, I'm a giant geek like that. I should probably be thinking about what kind of flowers I want but no... no I worry about my blog while I'm gone.
Another and much much cooler reason why I'm a geek is that my blogging friend, Danielle will be attending our wedding. She's driving all the way from New York to meet us (yes, we've never met - added geekyness) and to celebrate our big day with us.
I am SO happy that she's coming to the wedding. There is a whole cocktail of people from different places coming so having her there will just solidify it all in knowing that there is someone there from each aspects/points in our lives.
We still can't believe that 100 people will care enough to attend our wedding - some coming from Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, New York and even some of our Moose Jaw friends will be there. Unreal.

New found addiction : The Big Bang Theory
Yes, that's right and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Even though I'm not an UBER fan of TV in general, I like to pick and choose my shows very carefully. I don't like reality TV (and have made that quite clear, twice!) so it leaves me with very slim pickin' when it comes to my fave shows.
Which leads to our latest addiction : The Big Bang Theory.
It's a nice change of pace from Lost going from edge-of-your-seat-thrills to geeky-reference-jokes-until-your-sides-hurt-humor. We like to keep a semblance of balance.
I had watched a couple episodes randomly and thought the show was okay at best. Js started watching it a bit more and then borrowed seasons 1 and 2 on DVD from a friend... insta-hook!
You really have to start watching the show from the beginning to see the characters evolve and understand all the stoopid little references and the geeky jokes.
The only thing that gets on my nerves is that chick. Penny. Ugh. I haven't decided just yet if it's because of the actress or the actual character but my skin crawls when she tries to be witty or thinks she's just so wonderful. We've only watched the first 2 seasons and I really hope whoever writes her lines gets a swift kick in the cubes.
Also, I'm very jealous of their constant-take-out-food. They are always eating Thai food or Chinese and mama wants some. They also keep talking about Indian food and it's driving me bonkers. I miss all the restaurants in Ottawa and being able to get take-out as I so choose and never having to order from the same place twice within the month. *sigh*

Baking fun - Birthday cake for my favorite Geek!
... by favorite geek, I mean Js - not you, Nick. His birthday was back in September so forgive me once again if it's a bit outdated!
Geeky Goodness - Vanilla, Raspberry and Skor pieces
So the icing wasn't quite as I wanted it to be but I had about 2 hours to come up with something that would be easy to execute, would look good on a 9in round cake and didn't require too many colors. Behold, the Green Lantern birthday cake!
I used my grand-pa's plain white cake recipe as a base and threw in about half a bag of frozen raspberries. Mixed those in and poured the batter in two 9in round cake pans. When stacking time came around, I leveled the bottom cake and covered it with raspberry jam *mmm* and then covered that with Skor pieces. The plain white cake worked out very well with the uber-sweet filling and the raspberries added a bit of extra delicious. Then I slapped the second layer on top and went on with the icing.
I didn't have a pattern, mold or anything like that so I just had to wing it. I started by covering the entire thing with white icing then colored everything I had left in green. I used the handle of a long wooden spoon to press a straight line into the white icing along 2 of the sides where I wanted the 2 bars to be. Then I found a bowl that would fit well between the 2 lines and pressed that to the white icing lightly to create a round mark. I used those lines to follow along and create the Green Lantern logo - who needs a mold!!
I piped and piped away at trying to make a perfect circle and eventually had to give up as guests were arriving and I had to put things away. Js was very happy with the end result so it was all well worth it! :)
