A month goes by...

Not gonna lie, I have been purposely avoiding even loading up my blog's page. Not quite sure why... it's just been bugging me - not having anything to report. I guess it's more of a "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything" approach which really goes against the whole point of this blog. I tend to censor my ranty/venty posts and I always start writing drafts and then just delete them when they are a total disaster.

I don't want this blog to turn into a pity-party or a downer for anyone who reads it and I'm really struggling with finding the right balance. Until I figure that part out, the inspiration to write just isn't there...

Bullies or Bullied?

First off, I guess I should start by saying that I was never in the cool crowd at school - far from it even - I've always been a dork and a nerd and a tad on the loser side of the school cafeteria. This kid wasn't popular. Not even a bit. Also, I'd like to point out that the comments below are a simple observation and reflect the few thoughts that just sparked from my brain.

With recent events linked to bullying in schools and such, there's been a huge trend on bullying and how it can/should be stopped. Social media took this one and ran with it to the ends of the earth and if it can change the life of just one kid - then it's all worth it. It's attracting attention to an aspect of youth social interactions that were most often cast aside as "just girls being girls" and "little boys learning to man up" scenarios.

One side of the debate going on in my head right now is whether the "bully" or the "bullied" should be targeted in all those efforts? Or both? Reach out to a bullied kid - you'll change the life of one, maybe inspire a few more to speak out. Change the bully's attitude and you'll reach out to the dozen kids they'll torment for years and years... Yes, it's important to reach out to the poor kids being intimidated into submission by their peers but something needs to be said for sitting the bullies down and giving them a stern lesson on how the world (is supposed to) function. If they don't care - they should.

Yes, it's chilling when we look at the stats and even more so when we consider how many kids have harmed themselves because of this epidemic... but are we trying to reinvent the wheel?

As adults, I'm sure we can all say we've witnessed bullying or intimidation in our workplaces or social circles. I'm sure these people didn't wake up mid-adulthood and decide to convert into fire breathing dragons. Those are the kids who were mean to other kids at school. This phenomenon is nothing new, by any extent. Why all the hoopla now? Because social media makes it visible to everyone and socially responsible people feel compelled to do something? Was it not obvious before the Facebook era? Com'on. What about all those kids, now adults, who suffered in silence?

I guess it kind of frustrates me to witness what our society has come to. Why do we need this much fluff? I know that today's kids are a very peculiar generation but what are we teaching them? We need to seriously look at the tools we've given those kids (I'm not talking about Social Media tools - more like character and values) for them to be able to fend for themselves as past generations? Most importantly, I think, what kind of morals and ethics does today's bully have and where did they learn that from?

I think my main concern here is; when we do have children and they grow up to be teenagers, that they'll feel they can come to their parents when they are being mugged daily at school rather than post a sad Facebook status as a cry for help. Why does that seem to be so hard to establish? I hope we're aware enough as parents and involved in our kids lives to see these behaviors and foster a communicative environment within the home. I'm sure it's easier said than done. But one can hope...

Take your unsolvable problem and stuff it.

I'm so annoyed right now.

You know the kind of conversation that you think is going to be super easy and simple. When you give the other person who asked you a simple question a simple tool to help them find the answer they are looking for out of the goodness of your heart... and then the person's attitude is so negative and they are so dedicated to not solve their problem that you want to grab them by the hair and bang their heads into the wall?

"I am looking for a solution to this problem."
"Here's an idea that might solve your problem."
"That doesn't quite do it you see..."
"Oh, well then maybe this solution here could work."
"No it doesn't because the sky is blue."
"I didn't realize that affected the outcome. Perhaps try this..?"
"I've already tried this for two seconds five years ago with a very bad attitude and it failed..."
"Well here's the next obvious solution."
"The grass is green so it's not going to work."
"FUCK YOU!"
 *rage-quit*

Because you can't deal with the idea of not having something to complain about doesn't mean I have to put up with your bullshit.

    Poo is on my head.

I don't have the photo credits for this image.
Maggie sent it to me ages ago... not quite sure why I held on to it!?
The universe seems to think that the top of my head is an awfully swell spot for a steaming, tightly coiled, juicy pile of poo lately and I'm growing really impatient.

    Oy.

I've been having issues with blogging these past few weeks. It's kind of hard for me because I'm so used to spilling my guts on here and venting to my trusted readers. Mostly, it's been difficult because being able to read what I write on here gives me an outside-perspective that I really need and without that, I tend to spiral into the abyss that is my brain. Save me!

This Charlie-Brown-Cloud has been looming over my head and consuming my every thought and until I'm ready to admit it to myself and able to deal with it all, I won't be comfortable blogging about it. Believe me, I tried. I just can't bring myself to put words to keyboard and blurt it out into cyberspace.

It's so odd to me, not being able to keep a pulse on my emotions and I totally admit that it's a control thing. Totally. Until I get over my damn self and learn to deal with it, I'll have to try harder at blogging about something else.

    Anything else.

I guess I'll know I've fully accepted it once I'm finally able to blog about it.

There are about 10 different kinds of wrong with the fact that I guess which Harry Potter movie I'm watching and when it's situated in the saga's timeline judging on Hermione's boobs.

    Post ADD

By the time I caught up with my RSS feeds, logged in to Blogger and all that stuff, 4 blog post topics came and went through my overactive little brain. "Went" would be the key word here... *facepalm*

So, unless I decide to delete this blog in it's entirety, here is a collection of random thoughts as they happen over the next couple minutes.

There is a double rainbow in the sky behind our place. I miss my gays. Like, seriously, I feel like a large flaming, disco-dancing, feather-wearing, Cher-loving, foundation-wearing, eyebrow-tweezing, ugly-people-judging part of my life is missing.

I've been obsessing over cute kittens - this is nothing recent - but it seems like the universe *aheminternet* has been throwing cute videos and pictures at me and I'm not about to complain about it.

    That is all for now.

Top 4 reasons why I didn't like The Back Up Plan

I'm not quite sure why I had medium expectations for this movie. I knew it wasn't going to be the best movie ever but for some very strange reason, I thought I'd like it more than I did. I think I was intrigued and charmed by the concept. Turns out, the plot is exactly what turned me off cold.
    1. Predictably predictable
This movie was so predictable it's unreal. No surprises, no twists, no nothing. It's like, when something is about to happen and you go "Oh, they're gonna do it!" ... *drum fingers* "Do it already so we can move the eff on so she can dump you so you can try to get her back ad nauseum.

    2. He's not the dad. Get over it.
So one of the big moments of the movie is when she gets mad at him for saying the babies aren't his. They are not. You got inseminated, you ninny. You can't be mad at him because he said something that's the absolute truth. There's a whole 3 hours (okay, probably more so like 15 minutes but it feels like 3 hours) of her being all depressed about it and all I wanted to do is shake the TV and scream.

    3. Jennifer Lopez.

    4. It makes me want to burn my bra.
Oh look, finally a movie about a woman taking matters into her own hands and making it on her own! Wrong - she needs a man.
Oh look, finally a movie about a single moms are not hippies but a reality? Wrong - they chant and hold hands.
Oh look, finally a movie about a driven woman who sticks to her guns even when Mister Perfect comes along! Wrong - he's clearly more successful than her.
Ugh. Why does Hollywood still try to make movies starring Jennifer Lopez - do they not like money?

      This soap is mocking us!

I'm all for being germ-conscious and healthy and all that jazz but there's something about making people panic for no reason that just irks me. My latest irritation is this :

The Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap Dispenser. What the crap is up with that shite? Let's review together the steps to effective hand washing practices :

      1. Turn on faucet.
      2. Press on germ-filled soap pump to dispense soap in hands.
      3. Lather anti-bacterial soap on hands.
      4. Rinse.
      5. Turn off faucet.
      6. Dry hands however suits your mood.

What's that step right after touching the filthy pump? Wash hands. What gets rid of germs? Washing hands. Why the hell should I worry that the soap pump is covered in bacteria if I'm going to wash my hands right after I touch it. Seriously?

      The heat is (back) on!

So, we're totally brilliant. Before we left for Ontario and sent all the deposits off for the wedding stuff, we figured we'd put a couple extra bucks towards our utility bills so that we wouldn't be stuck out of money when we came back and it would save us some stress. Wrong.

It appears that we (I) paid one bill twice instead of putting an even amount on both our  power and gas bills. So we got back from the wedding and didn't really feel like going through the gigantic pile of mail that awaited. Plus, we have an equalized payment plan thing (or whatever it's called) so we know how much our bills will be and when they are due. No worries - la-dee-effing-dah.

Friday morning comes around - no hot water in the morning. My neighbor who's husband is away right now asked me to go over before going to work to watch her little baby while she showers. I figure I'll just go a bit early, shower there and ask Js to call CFHA this afternoon. It bugged me all day... what the shit could have possibly broken our hot water heater? It's really odd... Unless...? As soon as I get home, I rummage through the pile of mail and find three letters from the gas company notifying us that our account was past due. Damn it - damn it to hell!

Upon further online research, I find confirmation that :
      A) I paid the wrong account.
      B) They don't do reconnections over the weekend.
      C) It's going to be minus one million degrees on Saturday night and Js is gone camping until Sunday.

      Fail.

We got things figured out this morning and they were able to reconnect us on the same day. We're still out a couple hundred bucks but at least we won't have to worry about our electricity bill until next month. I think it's totally assbackwards NOT to call people or email or something. Please note I am aware that it's also assbackwards to pay the wrong bill. No need to rub it in.

We showered at our neighbor's house and wore hoodies feeling like total white trash all weekend. Ugh. Is that what they call married bliss?

PS: Also note that it's  August 31st and yes, our heat is on.

five by five: Why I (love/)hate the Twilight Saga

five by five: Why I (love/)hate the Twilight Saga

I refuse to jump on the Vampire bandwagon and Whitney does a great job at making points that convince me even more that I'm doing the right thing.

I've read many articles about it, trying to decide if I should read the books just to hate them more... but I don't even think it's worth my time.

I'm sure they are quite entertaining because, well... let's face it, the entire world is reading them or seeing the movies. I might give it up one day and decide to give it a go I just don't think the irritation is worth the entertainment.

      Short Interruption

So Nick complained that I didn't blog enough and then when I did blog, it wasn't the right *kind* of post... so here's another (probably boring) update on how things are going on here in Casa Del My Brain.

Due to a bunch of old reasons I'm not entirely ready to discuss on here just yet, I'm off work for a short bit. Doctor's orders. Enough time for me to focus on what matters right now and to get out of this rut. I think it'll do me good.

I have never in my life been off work for so long. I've only ever had a Doctor's note for my ear infection from this winter. This will either be very interesting... or very boring.

This also means that I'll have more time to blog, think about random things and document my life away on cyberspace. Hurray! Right... right!?

The tax man cometh... and we payeth.

Well, I'm actually getting a refund but after all's said and done and we put both our tax reports together, we only get about half of what we were expecting so it kinda sucks but it's better than a kick in the head, I say.

It's the first time we've ever filed our taxes together since last year, we weren't Common Law for the entire year and we decided to file them separately instead. My income was significantly higher last year too so it would have taken us in another tax bracket or something like that and it we would have had to pay more. I'm not quite sure and put all my trust in the hands of professionals just because I can't be bothered to remember this stuff from year to year.

I nearly died when I saw my net income from last year. Like I said, I took a massive income drop last year after leaving my job at TBS, being unemployed for 3 months and then making a lot less at my new job out here in Saskatchewan. I know it's all part of the deal and it kinda comes with the lifestyle - I have no job security but he's got the ultimate job security so it sorta compensates.

It's just a slight punch in the sides to see how little I've been able to contribute to our financial situation. I have to suck it up, get used to it and I promise I'll get over it but for now, I'll keep playing my teeny violin.

How's this for girly sized rage?

I was overcome with glee when I saw the horrible-horrible-customer-service taco place near walmart was closed. (Klassy, I know!)

Actually we only went there once and even though the tacos were absolutely delicious, the dude behind the counter was less than enjoyable.

Picture this tall lanky guy who's never really worked anywhere else but the Taco Place and who's never really set foot outside his mama's basement. The kind that thinks he knows it all because he's seen it all. Yeah. Lick me.

Me : Hi! What's the difference between this *points* taco and *points* this?
Him : Well this one is called the Supreme Taco and this one is called the Ultimate Taco.

Thanks, brain surgeon, I must have left my ability to read in the car. It was like pulling teeth to get the information and he looked at me like I must be some kind of hermit for never have ordered a taco from a fast-food-taco place.

Him : Do you want the standard size or the small?
Me : What's the difference? *gestures with hands to ask circumference of said taco*
Him : *sigh - rolls eyes* Normal size or girly size?
Me : *fumes* ... ... *tugs at Js' sleeve* ... ... *mumbles french swears indicating Js should order for me if he doesn't want blood to spatter on his burrito*

Are you fucking kidding me?! Seriously!? I was so full of rage I wanted to cry... but no, that would have been too girly of me. Taco man, you and girly sized pants can go fuck right off.

Why should the small one the "girly" size? Is it because women shouldn't eat too much, in case they get fat and society said that's wrong? Or perhaps because when all the men are done eating the food, we can only pick up the scraps and eat what's left? (Underlying family issue with this... but that's for another post.)

The only sad thing about that place being closed is that I will never be able to go back and serve this guy a piece of girly sized ass kicking. I did smile way too much for a sane person when I tried to imagine his narrow little mind trying to learn how to flip a burger or something. "Where are the girly sized buns?"

I wrote this post months and months ago and it just lingered on as a draft because I felt it was a bit ranty and didn't bring anything forward. Then I came across a great link about men and food (thanks Bitch Facebook Page) and I remembered this little piece of rage I wrote and it prompted me to read it again. It fills me with rage to this day so I decided it was worth sharing - if not for the link, for a quick laugh. :)

      Hi! I'm lame.

I don't really like the Old Navy commercials and I really don't like their jeans but I'm a sucker for a "design your own" thingy-ma-bob ... here's mine. :) *loser smile*

I have to admit, I was quite impressed because they did allow you to pick out your size between Small, Medium and Large. Also, it offered 3 different body types and there was an ACTUAL difference between the three.

Way to go, Old Navy. Now, try to make pants that actually fit those sizes and you'll get my vote.

I *may* have to pay them a visit and check out that scarf.

      Wedding Stuff : Themes are a no-go.

If one more person asks me what our wedding theme is, I'm going to cut someone.

We really don't see the need to have themed wedding. Sure, it may be great for other people and it's got it's own style and charm - just not for us. Why would we go and make the wedding about something else than us? We're doing all this to celebrate our love with our family and friends, why make it more complicated than it really is!?

No paper plates or printed napkins needed. I decided to start telling people that our theme was "Js and Marie are getting married!" and they kept asking if we'd have mermaids and airplanes everywhere. Are you kidding me?!

We don't have a theme and don't intend to have one.
Whatever works and looks "us" passes the test. If we like/want something, we add it to the pile and it's over and done with. No matchy-matchy and no unnecessary fla-flas.

We don't have a specific color scheme and don't intend to have one.
We have two basic colors we picked out. A beigey-mocha-esque color and warm-blues. How specific, I know! We don't want to limit everything to the same shade of dull. I don't want to stand in a store for hours going : I really like this thing but it's not the perfect color. There is no perfect color - only colors that go and colors that don't go (ie: red).

      Blah - Revisited

I'm taking the expression "I feel blah!" to a whole new level.

Not only am I feeling blah but I have a blah attitude towards pretty much everything at this time. Nothing is really going on to make me feel or act that way. It just is. That's what we do in my family, we sit there and don't feel the need to say or do anything until we know exactly what to do or say. As much as my Uncle tried to warn Js about what he was marrying into... Until it happens, it's hard to understand.

What does "feeling blah" mean? It's just like it sounds... blah. The best way to describe it is "beige". Everything is beige. Nothing's really exciting, nothing's really depressing. Beige. Like I'm holding an umbrella over my head and I'm just looking at the rain fall over the edge. Blah.

      Blah-tude.
Nothing seems worth the invested energy or time. Content just doing what I have to do, when I have to do it, I watch as the day crawls away on me and it's time for bed. Everything I do, I do with blah-ness in multiple shades of beige. Hilarious things get a chuckle and sad things get a :( face. Not much more to it.

Kind of like when Forrest Gump runs accross the country a couple times. He's not quite sure why or where he's going, he's just running. My shoes are beige. Blah.

It's a phase and this too, shall pass.
