Blind Woman Walking

Oh sweet mercy, I can't believe I haven't blogged about this yet.

A few days after the first snow, it's bitterly cold outside and Moose Jaw being Moose Jaw, the streets are very long and narrow skating rink at the best of times.

I'm the second car in line at an intersection in the left-turning lane waiting for the light to turn green. I see there's people waiting to cross the street in front of us but I don't make a huge deal of it because, well... they're waiting and that's what they're supposed to do.

Finally, the light turns green and everyone takes off... including the BLIND woman who was waiting to cross the street. Yes, she is blind, waving her white cane into the air and holding her hand up in her best attempt to "stop" us from running her over. I swear the car in front of me stopped just shy of two feet away from her.

A BLIND jay-walking woman nearly caused a pile-up at one of the busiest intersections in this bloody city.

*mind blown* and sadness for the poor woman.

Wedding update : Hi, I'm a giant geek.

Seems like all I've been writing lately are wedding updates. I promise to try and spread them all over the next couple weeks so that I don't bore the living crap out of anyone. I've also been working on some scheduled posts for while I'm in Ontario getting ready for the big day so no one misses me too much. :)
Yes, I'm a giant geek like that. I should probably be thinking about what kind of flowers I want but no... no I worry about my blog while I'm gone.

Another and much much cooler reason why I'm a geek is that my blogging friend, Danielle will be attending our wedding. She's driving all the way from New York to meet us (yes, we've never met - added geekyness) and to celebrate our big day with us.

I am SO happy that she's coming to the wedding. There is a whole cocktail of people from different places coming so having her there will just solidify it all in knowing that there is someone there from each aspects/points in our lives.

We still can't believe that 100 people will care enough to attend our wedding - some coming from Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, New York and even some of our Moose Jaw friends will be there. Unreal.

It's the little things...

- This morning, I woke up to a bleeding boyfriend. He totally face planted during his morning run and came back with a bleeding knee, scraped palms and a sprained ankle. All that happened at like 5am and I was still half asleep as he tried to wake me up to show me his booboo (on his KNEE, Nick!) - a couple hours after I got to work so probably around 11am-ish, I realized what had happened and laughed to myself for a good half hour.

- I can drive stick.

- A good friend from Regina will be attending our wedding in Ottawa - I'm so happy about this, there are no words... We met her because she was dating a CF member who was on OJT out here. He VR'd and moved back to Toronto so we haven't hung out together in ages. We invited him to the wedding because he goes to Ottawa quite often - we actually lived a couple streets away from each other a couple years ago, who knew?! So yeah, he asked her to be his date and we are SUPER excited and glad she'll be able to be there!

- Old episodes of Friends *cla-cla-cla-clap*.

- The little bulbs I planted out front are actually growing. Probably not as well as they normally should because of the recent crap weather but I have never gardened before and I'm quite proud of my accomplishments. They make me smile every time I walk in or out of the house.

- I think I've found a way to control my allergies - total bliss. To anyone who's having a hard time - night time sinus medication is a god send.

- Hunting for good songs to use for the wedding.

My legs, in pain they are.

Owwwie. Day 2 of my return to the retail world and my legs are not enjoying it. At all.

My legs have always been a lot stronger than my upper body. Mainly because they have to drag my trunk full of junk all day. Also because I started skiing when I was six and as a very nice doctor once put it, they are abnormally fat. I like the term muscular better myself but eh...

I'll get back into the swing of things eventually and I promise to stop complaining. In the mean time... owwwie.

I've also started driving stick (Nicholas, get your mind out of the gutter, woman!) and have been doing good - driving by myself to and from work today for the very first time - for the last 3 days. It's working out some weird muscles in my left leg because of the shifting and for some strange reason, some muscles in my left arm are complaining too. I think it's from being so nervous when I'm driving.

It's still weird getting used to driving and having to manage our schedules and our time around only one vehicle - especially since my work hours is so all over the place. We'll get the hang of that too eventually...

If you'll excuse me, I'll go beg Js for a leg massage now.

This morning SUCKS!

Gah! How does Murphy's law go again... whatever could happen, will happen or something like that!?

So J was leaving this morning (4am) for his course in Cornwall, he has to catch a plane from Regina to Winnipeg and then from Winnipeg to Montreal and then hops on a train that will take him to Cornwall. So he's looking at 11-12 hours of traveling today. He asked to fly to Ottawa instead where he could get family to drive him to Cornwall but that would actually cost like 500$ more or something so they wouldn't let him... So yeah... long effing day for him!

Back story : His car is a standard and I don't drive stick. I can't drive him to Regina and it's about a 45 minute drive. Boo!

He'd asked one of his buddies to drive him and I was going to go along with them to say good bye at the airport and help his friend stay awake for the drive back. His friend called us this morning at about 3am and he's sick and needs to go to the hospital pronto. He says he'll try to make it back in time or find someone to bring us back his car so I can drive J to Regina if he has to stay at the hospital. Gah!

Faithful to my good habits, I'd just fallen asleep around 2:30am so I was groggy and confused and J was worried about his friend and worried about making it to Regina in time to catch his flight. Basically : we're fucked.

So we both try to figure out a way out of this one. I haven't driven in over a month and a half, I don't have my glasses and don't know the way back from the airport. I'm probably going to be a sobbing mess the entire drive back and he'll stress out about something happening to his buddy's car (and me!) so me driving him back does not sound like a good idea. With only about half an hour of sleep to top it all, it's a no-go!

It's too late to call a cab and he can't very much leave his car in Regina for the whole duration of his course cause it's like 20 bucks a night or something.

So now, he's on his way to Regina in his car and tomorrow (well, later today!) I have to find someone who can drive stick but has an automatic car and ask them to drive with me to Regina so I can drive their car back and they can drive J's car back. Ugh! It's not gonna be easy... "Hey! Wanna screw your plans for Sunday and drive our car back from Regina for us?!" Awe-some!

He left and we were both super stressed because of the car, his friend and the whole deal! Ugh! It sucked! I would have much rather an awkward good bye in front of his friend at the airport, half asleep and smelling of Timmy's coffee than a stressed out hurried good bye at the front door. I guess this way I can go back to sleep (who am I kidding!?) right away and have more of a normal day to get my mind off things...

So just felt the need to share/vent/get it off my chest... I hope he makes it on time for his flight and I can figure out a way to go get his car ASAP. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!
