- Predictably predictable
This movie was so predictable it's unreal. No surprises, no twists, no nothing. It's like, when something is about to happen and you go "Oh, they're gonna do it!" ... *drum fingers* "Do it already so we can move the eff on so she can dump you so you can try to get her back ad nauseum.
- He's not the dad. Get over it.
So one of the big moments of the movie is when she gets mad at him for saying the babies aren't his. They are not. You got inseminated, you ninny. You can't be mad at him because he said something that's the absolute truth. There's a whole 3 hours (okay, probably more so like 15 minutes but it feels like 3 hours) of her being all depressed about it and all I wanted to do is shake the TV and scream.
- Jennifer Lopez.
- It makes me want to burn my bra.
Oh look, finally a movie about a woman taking matters into her own hands and making it on her own! Wrong - she needs a man.
Oh look, finally a movie about a single moms are not hippies but a reality? Wrong - they chant and hold hands.
Oh look, finally a movie about a driven woman who sticks to her guns even when Mister Perfect comes along! Wrong - he's clearly more successful than her.

Top 4 reasons why I didn't like The Back Up Plan
I'm not quite sure why I had medium expectations for this movie. I knew it wasn't going to be the best movie ever but for some very strange reason, I thought I'd like it more than I did. I think I was intrigued and charmed by the concept. Turns out, the plot is exactly what turned me off cold.

Whiskey-Ville - Population : Unknown.
Everyone has a wild side they save for the bedroom... and the internet?
I came across a very interesting (and new) blog while browsing a 20sb today : Tales from Whiskey-Ville
Right away I was intrigued. Basically it's a collaborative effort to openly and shamelessly talk about what's normally censored in a "OMG! What if my Mom found and read my blog?" way.
I have to admit I read a couple posts and I am not disappointed. It's funny, modern and it's got some truth and honesty to it that you'll only ever find on anonymous websites. The blog is still fairly new but I think it's definitely worth a read.
Go on, give it a try... but please, close the door.

But that's why it's anonymous. Who are we? We're your neighbors, your sisters, your aunts, your coworkers, and those girls you pass each day on the street. Just a couple of ladies...talking about sex."

Thegloss.com - Why men irritate me (and Nick)
Nick posted this to my Facebook wall a short bit ago and I thought it was quite ... ... ... interesting.
Thegloss.com - Why I'd Be Offended If a Woman Didn't Take My Last Name
Snippet for your thoughts :
My first instinct was to feel frustrated but the more I think about it, I pity the fool. How sad to feel the need to, like a little puppy, pee in every corner because it's his only way for him to keep what's "his". I hope you enjoy the single life, pal!
Here are more thoughts on last-name-changing practices I've blogged about in the past :

Snippet for your thoughts :
"Call me old fashioned. Call me traditional. Call me chauvinistic. Call me whatever you will, but don’t emasculate me. Leave my manliness in tact.
I do understand that for centuries women have struggled in a patriarchal society and that the last name is one of the final fronts. But please understand our plight. This isn’t about establishing a hierarchy in the relationship or taking possession of you. As deeply rooted as it is in our societal traditions, it is even more so in the man’s bible. It is a privilege for a man to take a woman’s hand in marriage, and an even greater honor of offering our family name as a token of our undying devotion. Arguably more so than a ring.
If you’re going to nag us about wearing our band during pick-up games and not leaving it by the bathroom sink after we wash our hands, then please remember to take our surname with you on your girls’ night out."

- My decision making process - A rose by any other name...
- I also blogged about my decision to get a tattoo to reflect my maiden name and then flashed some newly inked skin.

Offbeat Bride - How are you judged for your last name choice?
An interesting post I read today on OffbeatBride.com about changing your name when you get married vs keeping your maiden name. Some folks at a Dutch university published a paper showing that women who took their husband's last names were less likely to be hired for jobs, and made significantly less money.
As Ariel puts it :

As Ariel puts it :
The shifts and trends in last names over the last 40 year have coincided with significant cultural shifts in women's societal roles, so I think it's understandable that people would use the heavily politicized issue of last names as an indicator. I don't think these assumptions are accurate, of course. But it seems reasonable to me that in the shifting cultural landscape of gender roles, people will cling to whatever clues they can get when making judgments.I've blogged about my decision to take Js' name before and even though I think the results to the study are total bullcrap (not the study itself, I just think what the results show about society sucks balls.) I think the post by Ariel is very interesting including comments from someone who's read the entire study.

How's this for girly sized rage?
I was overcome with glee when I saw the horrible-horrible-customer-service taco place near walmart was closed. (Klassy, I know!)
Actually we only went there once and even though the tacos were absolutely delicious, the dude behind the counter was less than enjoyable.
Picture this tall lanky guy who's never really worked anywhere else but the Taco Place and who's never really set foot outside his mama's basement. The kind that thinks he knows it all because he's seen it all. Yeah. Lick me.
Me : Hi! What's the difference between this *points* taco and *points* this?
Him : Well this one is called the Supreme Taco and this one is called the Ultimate Taco.
Thanks, brain surgeon, I must have left my ability to read in the car. It was like pulling teeth to get the information and he looked at me like I must be some kind of hermit for never have ordered a taco from a fast-food-taco place.
Him : Do you want the standard size or the small?
Me : What's the difference? *gestures with hands to ask circumference of said taco*
Him : *sigh - rolls eyes* Normal size or girly size?
Me : *fumes* ... ... *tugs at Js' sleeve* ... ... *mumbles french swears indicating Js should order for me if he doesn't want blood to spatter on his burrito*
Are you fucking kidding me?! Seriously!? I was so full of rage I wanted to cry... but no, that would have been too girly of me. Taco man, you and girly sized pants can go fuck right off.
Why should the small one the "girly" size? Is it because women shouldn't eat too much, in case they get fat and society said that's wrong? Or perhaps because when all the men are done eating the food, we can only pick up the scraps and eat what's left? (Underlying family issue with this... but that's for another post.)
The only sad thing about that place being closed is that I will never be able to go back and serve this guy a piece of girly sized ass kicking. I did smile way too much for a sane person when I tried to imagine his narrow little mind trying to learn how to flip a burger or something. "Where are the girly sized buns?"
I wrote this post months and months ago and it just lingered on as a draft because I felt it was a bit ranty and didn't bring anything forward. Then I came across a great link about men and food (thanks Bitch Facebook Page) and I remembered this little piece of rage I wrote and it prompted me to read it again. It fills me with rage to this day so I decided it was worth sharing - if not for the link, for a quick laugh. :)
